By no stretch of the imagination should this collection of stuff be thought of as the ultimate computer security guide nor, honestly, anything close. If it does nothing other than occupy some space somewhere in cyberspace I hope it will keep at least a few people from being taken in on scams, hoaxes or other torturous events designed to make the 'surfing life' miserable for some and profitable for others. Your mileage may vary.
Several hundred thousand years ago there was, I'm sure, this one ape who had an idea.
'Clarence,' he said to himself, 'How cool would it be if I could get Bob over there to give me HIS banana? If I had HIS banana I would not have to climb around this tree all day trying to find food. Bob could do the work and I'd eat for free.'
Being an enterprising ape, Clarence made a plan.
'Bob," Clarence said to Bob, 'I have a thought here, and tell me if this sounds absolutely insane, but that banana you have there, it looks awfully tasty and rather ingenious of you to actually peel the skin off it! I've never had one peeled before, do you think I might have a bite? Just to see what it's like you know.'
Now Bob was a rather normal ape, did his own thing, enjoyed a bit of fruit now and again and in general had a rather nice normal ape-like life. He did, however, really look up to Clarence, and enjoyed the odd compliment now and again so, of course, he gave Clarence the banana.
I can just see it now, a couple of days down the line, and look, there is Bob, the resident expert at banana peeling peeling many bananas because he's 'the smartest one around and does it the best.' It's a short slip for Clarence to, no doubt, get Bob to do the collecting of bananas and do the peeling just by using a little flattery.
Now Bob had kids (and his had kids down the line) and so did Clarence. Way out there in the wild (and I really do mean the wild) there are descendents of both the "Clarences" and the "Bobs" of history still working the old banana trick, though these days the banana is your money, your credit cards, your identity.
It's not a safe world out there but don't be afraid, well, maybe be a little afraid.
